World Literary Work List
Till the middle of this month, Kinokuniya Book Store in Shinjuku has a promotion event titled "World Literature Cup". The summary of this event is like following;
"World Literature Cup is a place of book sales competition. We composed some teams based on the birth country of author or the location setting in the story, then we arranged them according to the teams in our store and had a book fair. The number of books entried from the World is counted to approximately 650. These team and book take participate to the race where competes amount of sales through the period of this event.
You can get a booklet for this event in PDF at a weblog, and it has a book selection. I've already downloaded it, and just took a look in some pages, but i could find bunch of familar books on there. Too bad review comments for each books are too less word and isn't enough, i felt.
However, in rest of my life, i should never struggle with meeting with excellent book;-) But actually, the books in the booklet are seemed as highbrow kind for people like me who didn't study positively in student days about either literature or culture in the world so much...

Flea Market in Meiji Park

On last weekend, i opened a shop at Meiji Park Flea Market with my friend. That was a part of house cleaning for me in this year end, so i didn't attempt to earn much money. But even so, i've discounted prices too much, it helps to promote sales enough, after all almost stuff i brought there are sold out.
As soon as we began to spread our selling stuff on the selling space, many buyers came and huddled around us, and they asked us madly "do you have down jackets?" or "do you have boots or sneaker shoes?" or such kind of questions. And they bought only good deals, then got away from us a few minutes later. I'm happy to sell one after another, but such buyer's behavior, which is like hyena crowded around dead animal, made us feel weird...
By the way, to sell clothes which is hard to sell and left on the selling space quite a while, it is effective to change their arrangement, and manage to get them looking better. For example, it's worth to try to display combination using them and other cloth. This is ordinary thing clothing shop always does, you know.

Hi, falks,
I found a article which talks about an interesting mathematic rule.
Get a look at following.
First, i'd like to show you an inverse number of 49.
1/49 = 0.020408163265306122448979591836...
I guess you think this result has nothing special, when you just take a glance.
BUT, i was surprised to see the result that the fraction part of inverse number of 49 are comprised with the sum of successive 'power of two' numbers!
0.02000000000000000000 2 (=2^1)
0.00040000000000000000 4 (=2^2)
0.00000800000000000000 8 (=2^3)
0.00000016000000000000 16 (=2^4)
0.00000000320000000000 32 (=2^5)
0.00000000006400000000 64 (=2^6)
0.00000000000128000000 128 (=2^7)
0.00000000000002560000 256 (=2^8)
0.00000000000000051200 512 (=2^9)
+)0.00000000000000001024 1024 (=2^10)
------------------------------
0.02040816326530612224
Wow! It's wonder.
Actually, the proof of this fact can be led easily.
For the purpose of simpler explanation, i substitute the sequencial numbers 0.02 + 0.0004 + 0.000008+ … shown in above by using X beforehand.
X = 0.02 + 0.0004 + 0.000008 + …
Now, i divide this X by 50.
X / 50 = 0.0004 + 0.000008 + 0.00000016 + …
As a result , i could remove the first term '0.02' from original X.
It stands for following equation.
X / 50 = X - 0.02
Then, this equation can be transformed and solved for X.
X = 50*X - 1
-49X = -1
X = 1 / 49
Q.E.D!
I never know that 49 behinds such meaningfull number :o)
I hope you can enjoy this fact.
Brilliant! Thanks 4 that! :)

Night View form Griffith Observatory
Just one year ago, i went travel to Los Angels to visit my friends for short vacation.
I had some unforgetable(mixture with good and bad) memories during this travel, however if i choose the best of impressive thing, it is that the night view from the Griffith Observatory was quite beautiful.
This observatory locates on a hill northern outskirt from downtown area, and the view has no object or light annoying your eye, so you can look over a big landscape of town-light.

This photo is what i actually took. A lot of building and street turned on their light very brightly, and they were spreaded from side to side, and reached to the horizon. Its scale was wider and further than i've ever seen.
Great thanks to my friends' kindness for taking me such wonderful place.

Fail-Safe & Dr.Strangelove
I watched two old monochrome movies with few interval day. One is "Fail-Safe", and another is "Dr.Strangelove - How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb". Both describes about cold-war between US vs. Soviet and threaten of nuclear weapon. They were released at the same year 1964. That year is the period in the middle of cold-war. I guess these movie could stand out and make much sensation behind such social background.
These movies are often compared each other because key materials are very closed, but it could be said they are completely different type of story, so i thought that comparison itself has nonsence a little. Before everything, in a nutshell, Dr.Strangelove is comedy and sarcasm against gorvernment of US or against some blind idea like a principle only chosen people have rights to be alive in the world, whereas Fail-Safe is a kind of psychlogical suspense which implies a antithesis message thrown against overcounting to machines & computer programs.
As an another highlight of Dr.Strangelove, maybe you will be surprised that the leading actor, Peter Sellers acts as three rolls and performs by ad-lib in the movie. No doubt he was outstanding actor/comedian. By the way, when i awared this fact is after movie was ended up ;-)
